Exchange Student Receives One Year in Jail for Child Pornography
FREDERICK- Furen Du, 18, an exchange student from China, appeared before the Honorable Julie S. Solt and was sentenced to 10 years, suspend all but one year incarceration. The defendant will receive credit for time served and be placed on 5 years unsupervised probation, as long as he is outside of the United States. The defendant must register as a Tier 2 Sex Offender. Upon release, the defendant is expected to be deported.
On October 18, 2017, Furen Du pled guilty to one count of Possession With Intent to Distribute Child Pornography.
This incident involved an online child pornography investigation. The investigation was conducted by three different Maryland law enforcement agencies, including the Frederick Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Division. On May 16, 2017, a search warrant was executed on the defendant’s residence. The defendant admitted he downloaded and shared child pornography.
