In recognition of Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Frederick County State’s Attorney Charlie Smith and his Office will be hosting the 35th Maryland Statewide Memorial Service for the Western Region which includes Frederick, Alleghany, Carroll, Garrett, Montgomery, and Washington Counties![]()
Frederick, MD – State’s Attorney Charlie Smith will lead the Annual Maryland Crime Victims’ Memorial this Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 6437 Jefferson Pike, Frederick MD from 1 pm to 3 pm in honor of Maryland’s crime victims and their families. The memorial service honors the memory of those Marylanders who lost their lives to violent crime and acknowledges the families who have had their lives dramatically changed as a result of someone else’s violent actions. Each year, the program includes the reading of the names of those individuals who have died. ![]()
The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy will present a Proclamation during the service. ![]()

Evidence Review Unit Chief, Kristin King and E.R.U. Investigator, Justin Walters instructed our interns today about the unit's role in prosecuting cases. E.R.U. is responsible for identifying, requesting and reviewing all digital audio/video evidence generated by police during the course of criminal investigations. Police body-worn cameras, vehicle dash cameras, cellular phone videos/data and recorded witness interviews are examples of the media they process.
