FREDERICK MAN TO SERVE FIVE-YEAR MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCE FOR POSSESSION OF LARGE AMOUNT OF COCAINE
Frederick, MD – Yesterday in the Circuit Court for Frederick County Maryland, the Honorable Judge Scott Rolle sentenced 29-year-old Axel Angulo-Llactas to 20 years in the Division of Corrections, with all but five years suspended, for the offense of CDS Possession – Large Amount (cocaine). By statute, those five years are a mandatory minimum sentence, to be served without the possibility of parole. The Defendant pled guilty to that offense in May 2026. The Defendant had been held without bond since his arrest on November 25, 2025 and received credit for the time he served since the date of his arrest.
On November 25, 2025, members of the Frederick Police Department and Frederick County Sheriff’s Office served a search and seizure warrant at 5377 Partners Court in Frederick. Officers recovered an amount of cocaine just over 1000 grams from a safe in the defendant’s bedroom, among other evidence. In Maryland, possession of 448 grams or more of cocaine is classified as a large amount under Criminal Law § 5-612.
The investigation was led by Detective Nicholas Rippeon of the Frederick Police Department Tactical Investigation Unit, with assistance from Nicholas Constantine of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, and other members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDATA) Taskforce. The State was represented by Assistant State’s Attorney Paul Tumulty.
